Self-host

Updating

Self-host always runs the same editor version as editor.dontv.shop. Each time a new version goes live on editor.dontv.shop, a self-host release comes out with it, and your install picks it up the next time M3UTool starts. Follow these steps to update by hand or to update the M3UTool program itself.

When updates arrive

Every time the M3UTool program starts M3UTool, it first asks editor.dontv.shop for the newest release. When there is a new one, it downloads it (about 400 MB), checks it and restarts M3UTool with it. When there is none, M3UTool starts right away.

Your playlists, customers and settings are kept in every update.

Note: When Docker brings M3UTool back by itself, for example after a server restart, no update is fetched. Run an update by hand to get the newest version.

Update now

  1. Start the update: Right-click the M3UTool icon and click Update. On Linux, run dontv update.
  2. Wait for Running: The first line of the icon's menu shows the download and then Running. On Linux, the command shows a download bar when there is a new release and ends with "M3UTool is running in the background".
  3. Check the version: Open the editor. The version at the right of the top bar (for example v0.2.663) is the same as on editor.dontv.shop.
Note: When a new version is installed, your customers cannot watch for the short time M3UTool restarts. Update at a quiet hour.

Update the M3UTool program itself

Update brings a new editor. The M3UTool program (the icon on Windows, the dontv command on Linux) only changes when you run the install command again. Do this now and then, so the program gets its fixes too.

  1. Run the install command again: On Windows, the command from Install on Windows. On Linux, the command from Install on Linux.
  2. Paste your key: The installer asks for your M3UTool key again.
  3. Wait until it is done: The installer replaces the program, fetches the newest editor and starts M3UTool. Your data stays.
