AI assistants

You can let an AI assistant work on your playlists, for example Claude or another assistant that supports MCP (the Model Context Protocol). You ask in plain words, and the assistant finds duplicates, tidies a group, renames a batch of channels or starts a refresh. It uses the API with your key, so it can do exactly what the key allows and nothing more. Follow these steps to connect an assistant.

Steps

  1. Make a key: Under Account, then API keys, click New key. Choose Read only if the assistant should only look, or Read and write if it may change things. Tick the playlists it may reach. Copy the key. More in The API.
  2. Install Node.js: The connector runs on the computer where your assistant runs and needs Node.js 18 or newer. Download it from nodejs.org if you do not have it.
  3. Download the connector: Download dontv-mcp.zip and unzip it. Put dontv-mcp.mjs in a folder where it can stay, for example C:\M3UTool. It is one file with everything inside, so there is nothing to install.
  4. Add it to your assistant: In Claude Desktop, open Settings, then Developer, then Edit Config, and add the M3UTool connector with your key:
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "dontv": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": ["C:\\M3UTool\\dontv-mcp.mjs"],
      "env": {
        "DONTV_API_KEY": "dontv_...",
        "DONTV_BASE_URL": "https://editor.dontv.shop"
      }
    }
  }
}

Note: On a Mac or Linux the path looks like /Users/you/M3UTool/dontv-mcp.mjs. Other assistants that support MCP take the same three values: the command node, the path to the file and the two settings with your key.

  1. Start your assistant again: The M3UTool tools now show up in the assistant.
  2. Ask something: Example: "Which channels exist twice in StreamLine TV? Tell me what you would merge."

What the assistant can do

The tools that only look are marked as read-only, and the ones that remove something are marked as destructive, so your assistant can ask you before it runs them.

Good to know

Tip: Start with a read-only key tied to one playlist, and ask for a plan before any change. "Find every channel that exists twice and tell me what you would merge" is a much better first question than "clean this up".
