Self-host settings
On self-host you run the whole machine, so you decide how often things happen and how much runs at once. The settings apply to every playlist on your install. Follow these steps to open them and change what you need.
Steps
- Open Settings: Click Settings at the bottom of the left rail. This button is only there on self-host.
- Change a setting: Pick a new value from the list next to it, or click a number. Every change saves by itself and a Saved message shows. Only the TMDB key has a Save button.
The settings are grouped as below. The default is the value a new install starts with.
Messages
Open Messages in the Settings menu to pick where M3UTool tells you things. Each message has a tick for Discord and one for Email: tick one, both or none. It saves by itself. M3UTool sends these messages for your box, so they also come when the box is off.
- This box stops answering: After 15 minutes without an answer, and again when it is back. Stopping the box from the tray sends nothing. On at first: Discord and email.
- This box updated itself: After an update at night. On at first: Discord and email.
- Check finished: Channels stopped working or work again. Only for playlists with Tell me when channels die on. On at first: Discord.
- Line or plan ending: A provider line ends soon, or has ended. On at first: Discord and email.
Click Send a test to check that both arrive. Discord messages go to the Discord account you connected on editor.dontv.shop, emails to your M3UTool email.
Refresh and checks
- Live channels: How often M3UTool asks your provider for new and removed live channels. The default is every 4 hours.
- Movies and series: The same for new movies and series. The default is every day.
- Channel check: How often the checker tests your channels on its own at most. The default is every hour. Each playlist can check less often, or not at all, under Playlist automation.
Work in parallel
- Jobs at once: How many jobs (refreshes, checks, imports) run at the same time, from 1 to 6. The default is 6.
- Checks at once: How many checks run at the same time, from 1 to 6. The default is 2.
Higher numbers finish sooner, but use more of your computer and more of your provider connections. If your provider allows only a few connections, keep Checks at once low.
TV guide
- Guide refresh: How often the country guides are downloaded again. The default is every 12 hours.
- Sports events: How often live event names and times are updated. The default is every 3 hours.
- Keep past programmes: How long programmes that already aired are kept. The default is 5 days.
Backups
- Back up each playlist: How often a backup of each playlist is taken. The default is every 6 hours.
- Keep backups: How long backups are kept. The default is 5 days. Older backups are deleted.
More in Backups and restore.
Advanced
Click Advanced to open this group. Leave these as they are unless you have a reason.
- TMDB key: Your own key from themoviedb.org for movie and series details and posters. Type it and click Save. After that the key is never shown again: the field only says that a key is saved.
- User agent for providers: The name M3UTool gives itself when it talks to your provider. Leave it empty unless your provider asks for a certain one. It saves by itself when you stop typing.
- Most channels per check: The most channels one automatic check tests. The default is 20,000.
- Keep activity details: How long the editor's Activity list keeps exactly what each run changed — every name before and after. 1 day (the default), 3, 7, 14, 30 or 90 days. The See which channels link in a check's message works this long too.
- Tries before a job gives up: How many times a job is tried before it gives up. The default is 3.
- Guide days sent to players: How many days of TV guide your customers' players get. The default is Everything.
Your account on self-host
Open Account at the bottom of the left rail to see the account self-host uses.
- Sign-in: Self-host uses your M3UTool account. Your name, email and password follow the ones on editor.dontv.shop within 5 minutes. Change your password there. See First sign-in.
- Discord messages: Messages from self-host arrive as a direct message from M3UTool, on the Discord account you connected on editor.dontv.shop. Connect Discord there under Account. Pick which messages come on Discord and which by email under Settings → Messages (see above). Turn the channel messages on for each playlist with Tell me when channels die in Playlist automation.
