First sign-in
Self-host signs you in as the M3UTool account your key belongs to, with the same name or email and password as on editor.dontv.shop. The M3UTool program on your machine can also sign you in without typing anything. Follow these steps to open the editor on the machine that runs M3UTool and on your other devices.
Open the editor on the machine that runs M3UTool
- Windows: Click the M3UTool icon next to the clock, or right-click it and click Open editor. The M3UTool shortcut on your desktop and in the Start menu does the same.
- Linux: Run
dontv openfor your browser, ordontv windowfor a window of its own.
The editor opens and you are signed in. The browser stays signed in, so you only need a new link on a new device. There is no Sign out on self-host.
What you see first
The editor opens on the Overview. On a new install it has no playlists yet, and a card above the playlists offers Copy my account from editor.dontv.shop. You have two ways to start:
- Bring your account over: copy your playlists, customers and settings from editor.dontv.shop in one go. See Copy my account.
- Start fresh: add your first playlist as you know it from editor.dontv.shop. See Add a playlist.
The card stays on the Overview until you have copied your account once. You can also find it at the top of Settings.
Sign in on another device
Open the editor address on your phone, tablet or second computer and sign in with your M3UTool name or email and password. If your M3UTool account asks for a 2-step code, type the code from your authenticator app. Checking that code needs the internet: without it, use a one-time link.
A one-time link signs a device in without a password:
- Ask for a link: Right-click the M3UTool icon and click Open editor on another device… A text file opens with the link. On Linux, run
dontv link. - Open it on the other device: Open the link on your phone, tablet or second computer within 10 minutes. The device must be on the same network as the machine that runs M3UTool.
The link works once. Ask for a new one whenever you need it.
Forgot your password? Click Forgot password? on the sign-in page: it opens editor.dontv.shop, where you set a new one. The new password works here within 5 minutes.
To reach the editor from outside your network, use an SSH tunnel on a server (see Install on Linux).
Troubleshooting
- The sign-in page (Sign in) opens instead of the editor: The link was already used, or its 10 minutes are over. Sign in with your M3UTool name or email and password, or ask the M3UTool icon for a new link (Open editor, or Open editor on another device…), or run
dontv openordontv link. - Your password is not accepted: Use the password of editor.dontv.shop. Right after a new install or a password change it can take up to 5 minutes to arrive. Until then, sign in with a link.
- You were signed out: The password of your M3UTool account changed. Sign in again with the new one.
- Nothing happens when you ask for a link: M3UTool is not running. The first line of the M3UTool icon's menu shows why. Click Start, wait for Running and try again. On Linux, run
dontv start. - The link does not open on the other device: Check that the device is on the same network as the machine that runs M3UTool. On Windows, allow Docker through the firewall when Windows asks.
- The editor shows Activate this install: Your M3UTool key has not been accepted for 7 days. Paste your M3UTool key into the box and click Activate license. More in How self-host works.
