Devices and connections
Max devices decides how many M3UTool apps can watch at the same time on one customer login. One means one device at a time. Two or three suits a family. It counts devices that are watching, not devices that have the app installed. Follow these steps to change how many devices a customer may use.
Steps
- Open the customer: In Customers, click the customer in the list.
- Open Your source: Click the Your source tab.
- Set the number: Type the number in Max devices. Example: 2 lets the customer watch on the TV and the phone at the same time. It saves by itself.

How devices are counted
- A device counts from the moment it starts a channel, a movie or an episode.
- Devices on the same internet connection count as one. Example: a TV and a phone in the same house use one place.
- An M3UTool app gives its place back about 90 seconds after it stops playing.
- Only M3UTool apps and the web player count. Other player apps, such as Smarters or TiviMate, never count towards Max devices and are never listed.
- When all places are taken, a new device cannot start watching. The devices that are already watching keep playing.
Where you and your customers see the devices
- You: Who's watching in the bar on the left shows who is watching what right now. More in Who is watching.
- Your customer, on their page: My devices lists every TV, phone and computer their login is on in an M3UTool app, and what each one is watching, for example "1 of 2 watching now". They can Reload, Stop a device that is watching, Remove their playlist from a device and Add it back, or take a device off the list with ✕. It is the same list as the customer's Devices tab, without your other customers or your own device names.
- Your customer, in the M3UTool app: Settings, then Account, then Your devices shows the same list with Disconnect.
Good to know
- Important: Your provider has its own connection limit for each provider login, and that is the real ceiling. If the provider login allows one connection, Max devices 3 will not make a second device play. Only sell as many devices as the provider login allows.
- A customer who is paused or expired cannot watch on any device, whatever the number. More in Expiry and renewal.
