How the tools work
The advanced tools change many channels in one run. You start them from the Tools button in the top bar of the editor, from the panel that opens on the right when you tick channels in the grid, or from the panel of a group. What a playlist does on its own is set on the Playlist settings page instead.
The top bar
- New: Adds something. New channel (New movie or New episode on the other tabs), New group, Linked group, which shows a group from another playlist here, and Provider source, which merges another provider into this playlist.
- Tools: Every job that works on many channels at once. Each entry opens its own window, where you choose what it runs on.
- The search button: Click the magnifier or press Ctrl + K. Type what you want in your own words, old names included, and press Enter. It finds any tool, tab or setting and takes you there.
The Tools panel
Click Tools. A panel opens with the jobs under headings.
| Heading | Jobs | More in |
|---|---|---|
| Fix & fill | Check channels, Fix names, Match logos, Map guide, Tag genres & 18+, Run all automation steps | Run a check, Fix names, Match logos automatically, Map the guide, Playlist automation |
| Rename & provider | Bulk rename…, Change provider…, Remove duplicates | this chapter |
| Order & fallbacks | Sort & renumber…, Fold copies into one channel, Re-pick the best fallback everywhere | Sort and reorder, Fallbacks |
| Other playlists | Copy or move to a playlist, Copy my edits to a playlist | Move and copy, Copy edits |
| Careful | Hide not working channels, Clear all check results | Not working channels, Read the results |
On Movies and Series, Fix & fill offers Check movies (or Check episodes), Posters & info and Run all automation steps. The live-only jobs are left out: Fix names, Match logos, Map guide, Tag genres & 18+, Remove duplicates and the two under Order & fallbacks that deal with fallbacks. Copy or move to a playlist stays greyed out until you have ticked channels. The two jobs under Careful ask first.
One shape for every window
Every window you open from Tools looks the same, so you always know where to look:
- At the top: the name you clicked in the menu, and a Learn more link to the page of this guide.
- One or two sentences on what the window does.
- Numbered steps: 1 On what?, 2 Options and 3 Preview. Some windows have fewer steps. Sort & renumber calls its third step More.
- At the bottom: Cancel and one main button, for example Start check, Rename 14 or Change 62. The button carries the number of channels it will change and stays greyed out while nothing would change. A red button, like Move 12 to bin, moves channels to the bin and asks first.
Bulk rename and Change provider have one more row above the steps, How, where you pick the tool. Bulk rename also has a Rename row: Channel names or Group names. More in Fix names and Change stream addresses.
Choose what a window changes
1 On what? offers these choices, always in this order, and only the ones that apply right now:
- Ticked (N): Only the channels, movies or episodes you ticked in the list. N is how many.
- Ticked groups (N): Only the groups you ticked in the column on the left, with Ctrl or Shift and a click, or a long press on a phone.
- This group: The group you have open on the left.
- Pick groups…: A list of every group of this part. Type in Filter groups… to find one, or use All, Invert and None.
- All Live TV: Every live channel of the playlist. On the other tabs it reads All Movies or All Series.
A line under the choices says in plain words what your choice means, for example "Only channels in UK | ENTERTAINMENT."
When a window opens it picks for you: what you ticked, else the ticked groups, else the group you have open, else all. So a run never reaches further than you meant. Tick channels or groups first when you want a small run.
Note: Copy or move to a playlist works on Ticked (N) only. Tick the rows first.
The preview
3 Preview shows what the run would do before anything changes. For most windows it is a Before → After list with a count, for example "14 will change · 62 looked at".
- Bulk rename, Change provider and Remove duplicates update the preview by themselves while you type.
- Fix names, Match logos and Posters & info look things up first. Press Find new names, Find logos or Preview first. The main button then changes to Rename N, Use N logos or Use these N.
- Check channels tells you how many streams will be checked now, and warns when today's limit runs out.
Every window works on the tab you opened it from. Opened from Movies, it changes movies only. Opened from Series, Bulk rename changes whole series: renaming a series renames every episode in it.
What happens when you press the main button
- A small run is done at once and a message tells you how many channels changed.
- A big run carries on in the background. The message says how many channels will change, and the console at the bottom of the editor shows the progress. You can keep working.
- A run that moves channels to the bin asks first. They go to the Bin, where you can restore them.
Playlist settings
The settings that keep working without you are not under Tools. Click Playlist settings in the bar on the left of the editor. A menu on the left holds five parts, each with a short line of what is on, and the page opens on the part you used last:
- Checks & updates: The automatic checks, not working channels, fallbacks and what runs after each provider update, each in its own card. More in Playlist automation.
- Guide file: What the TV guide file of this playlist carries. More in Guide file settings.
- Provider accounts: Max connections, the Channel cap (Max channels) and extra provider accounts for checking. More in How checking works.
- Matching and Posters & info: What Use this, Apply match to all and a TMDB match take over.
Take a run back
After a run, Undo appears in the top bar. It takes back the last change on this playlist, whoever made it. Hold the mouse over it to see what it will undo. Press it again to go further back. Map guide can be taken back this way too. Only Posters & info runs are not in Undo; restore a backup for those. More in Undo.
