Profiles, PIN and sync
The M3UTool apps let every person in a house have their own profile, keep children away from adult channels with a PIN, and carry lists from one device to the next. This page explains what your customers can do, so you can answer their questions. You do not need to set anything up in the editor.
Profiles
Every customer login has the profile Main, and customers can add more with Add profile. Once there is more than one profile, the TV app asks Who's watching? when it starts.
- Own lists per profile: Each profile has its own Continue watching, My list and its own rows on the home screen.
- Kids profiles: A profile marked Kids hides adult content. Leaving a kids profile needs the parental PIN.
- Changing profiles: Under Manage profiles, the customer adds, changes or removes profiles. Main always stays.
The parental PIN
In Settings, under Parental, the customer sets a PIN of 4 to 8 digits. The PIN locks:
- Adult channels: channels flagged as adult (18+) are always behind the PIN.
- Channels and groups they choose: in the options of a channel, Lock with PIN or Restrict (kids).
- The app itself (optional): the app asks for the PIN when it starts.
Note: The customer sets the PIN in the app. You cannot see it or change it from the editor.
Sync between devices
A customer who watches on more than one device with the same login finds the same things everywhere: on the TV, the phone, the Windows player and the web player. These follow them:
- the profiles
- My list
- Continue watching, including where they stopped in a film or episode
- the rows on the home screen
- groups they hid or renamed in the app
- the parental PIN
A few details:
- Where they stopped is shared the moment the customer closes a film or an episode.
- The profile in use stays per device. One person can watch as Kids on the tablet while another watches as Main on the TV.
- The PIN never leaves the device. Only a scrambled copy is shared, which lets the other devices check the PIN without knowing it.
- Continue watching shows a series once, on the episode watched last, with that episode's own picture.
Good to know
- Sync works per customer login. Two households on one login share each other's lists. Tip: Give each household its own customer.
- What a customer arranges on their own page under My channels & movies is separate from this. It is set on the web and applies to every app and player on their login. More in Group access.
